Yesterday, Lucy turned two weeks old and had a visit to the doctor. Nursing her has not been easy, and I was anxious to see if she was gaining weight like she should be. At the doctor, they weighed her and she now weighs 6 lbs 15 oz, up from her 6 lb 2 oz birth weight. I think that it is starting to show in her face, which is starting to fill out. Nursing is getting better, but she still makes it hard. I almost always have to wake her up to make her eat, which I think makes it harder than if I waited until she is ready. I just don't think she wants to eat 8-10 times a day. She is satisfied with 6-7. When I wake her to feed her, she will cry and fuss for a few minutes and then eventually start sucking and be fine, but sometimes she resists for awhile. Or, she will just fall asleep again or sit there and not suck.
Any suggestions on how to make the whole process easier would be appreciated! I'm sure it will continue to get better, and I don't feel like I have to worry as much now that I know she is gaining weight.

wish I could help you with the nursing, but it was a battle for me as well. I am not sure if it would be bad to nurse her less times and just wait for her to be ready as long as she is growing and having lots of wet diapers. All I know is that nursing was so difficult for me, especially with James and how painful it was. If it isn't painful then I think it will just get better and better.
Nursing is hard! I remember so many nights crying and being in pain and saying that I was done. Good thing I had Mike supporting me and Brittney to experience it with because ithas gotten so much better and I love the time with Addyson. At the beginning I talked to my doctor and told him that I was trying to follow a method in a book called the baby whisperer where you let the baby eat kind of on demand but never let them go over 3 hours during the day and then let them sleep as long as she would at night. I really wanted her to figure out the day and night thing and let her be some what independant and create her own eating habits. With this method she sometimes would not get all 8 to 10 feedings (I even had one lacation person tell me she needed to eat 12 times a day). He told me exactly what Laura said that if she is growing and having enough poopy and wet diapers then she is fine! He also said that those are general numbers and that every baby is different. He also told me that as her mom I needed to decide what was best for my baby. I know you can do this and that it will get easier! I just always told myself that I needed to stick it out for two months and then I could decide. By the time I got to the two month mark I just loved it! If you ever need someone to talk to or cry with give me a call!
I agree with Jinii. nough said. Love you, Mom
Hey Amy, with both Tate and Jacob in the hospital they wanted me to wake them up to feed them, but when I got home with Tate I stopped doing that and really felt like he was ready when he was ready and ate a lot better when he actually got hungry. Try it! And as long as she is gaining weight then she should be good! Good luck! It is not easy!
